OUR HISTORY
Rockdale Cares, Inc. was established and incorporated in 1978 by families and friends of Rockdales County's mentally challenged. We are a volunteer Board of Directors and are dedicated to helping mentally challenged citizens in Rockdale County achieve the highest possible quality of life.
Since our inception, we attempted to fill the service gaps in Rockdale County. Through our advocacy efforts, the State agreed to fund day training and a work activity center which opened in Conyers. The program initially opened in surplus school space. We realized that this was not suitable for training center needs, so we applied for and received a loan which paid for land and construction of an 11,200 sq. foot building located off of Parker Road.

REACHING OUT
In 2000, we decided to extend our priorities to include not only an adult day program, but also a place for social and recreational opportunities for our special citizens. To accommodate these needs, our building underwent extensive rennovations that were completed in 2001. In April 2001, we began another adult day program and in that July we sponsored our first social event in our newly renovated building, now known as "Our Place". Current programs are targeted to teens and young adults, with future plans to expand and accommodate all age groups.
